Philadelphia: Chilton Books, 1964. 8vo size green clothbound hardcover with photo illustrated dust jacket; 433 pages including index and seven technical appendices. Illustrated with black and white photographs and drawings throughout. Printed gray laid endpapers. From dust jacket: "The author is especially adept at debunking the endless 'old husband's tales' alleging unprovoked attack, premeditated assault and deliberate mayhem committed upon man by other animals - stories that doubtless originated as soon as man could talk... Throughout the ages, these stories have been so embroidered that ... the comprise a torrential flood of horror. At the same time there are animals that are dangerous to man, some that we expect... and some coming from the most unexpected quarters..." Contents include: Mammals Birds Reptiles Amphibians Fishes Invertebrates Roger A. Caras (1928 - 2001) was a naturalist and preservationist, writer and author. This volume is one of his first of more than 70 books. Jacket is tattered at top edge, has a waterstain on the inside and back edge and a half inch tear on front.
