First published in 1926 in the UK by Heinemann, these are the American first editions of the novel by English author Marice Baring (1874-1945). It is the story of the complexes, complications, and the barriers of misunderstanding within the marriage of Fanny and Michael Choyce, members of the literary and artistic world of London. Daphne Adeane, deceased prior to the start of the novel, and the memory of her, pervade and impact the lives of the characters. Set around the period of the First World War.
