Edge and corner wear, scuffed and scratched, front board has three rings on it from a glass or cup and a few brown stains as well, corners are bumped and rubbed, brown stain on the spine which has bled through to the rfep and ffep, page 307 is stained, rear hinge is cracked, shelf worn, overall a rare and collectible used first edition (stated)! Extremely scarce and out-of-print! Blue cloth with a black illustration (palm tree and water) on the front board and black lettering on the spine. Deckle page edges. Very very rare and hard-to-find! 307 suspense-filled and mystery-riddled pages! "The wreck of the Tasmania did not cause a great stir in the world. She was an obscure tramp steamer, owned by a small Dutch company in the East Indies, and her loss meant only a few lines of type in the shipping columns of newspapers of the Pacific ports. She had been reported missing for a month before Lloyd's agency in Sydney confirmed suspicions by announcing that her bones had been found, ten fathoms deep, off a reef in the Bismarck Archipelago. The world noted the fact and rolled on toward its next day's work, callous of the tragedy of the humble implied in the phrase, 'Lost with all hands.'....." --- from Chapter 1 (Ripples of the Tasmania)..
