Sydney: Hodder & Stoughton, 1970. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, good condition (in good dustjacket), sepia (brown tinted) illustrations, minor edgewear jacket (spine faded, top corner front flap clipped, tiny tear spine with slight loss one letter, few tiny spots front cover), light foxing endpapers, pages lightly toned, top edge lightly foxed. 142 pp. (This copy: Hardback dustjacket.) The story of two obscure young Englishmen who visited Australia in the service of William IV, Queen Victoria and the Admiralty. The first was Charles Darwin, official naturalist in His Majesty's survey ship 'Beagle', which sailed into Sydney Cove in 1836. The second was Thomas Henry Huxley, assistant to the 'Rattlesnake', which dropped anchor in Farm Cove eleven years later. This account of their activities by the late Professor Jock Marshall is the best recent publication.
