New York: The Macmillan Company, 1930. First American Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good+/Good+. 8vo. Pp. 329. Translated from the German by Roberts Tapley. Bound in brown textured cloth with lettering stamped in relief on front board and spine. Partially unopened. Light dust-soiling to top edge, and with the discreet stamp of Bertrand Smith's Acres of Books on the front pastedown, which has partially transferred to the front free endpaper. In the color illustrated dust jacket that has a darkened spine and shallow chips at head and tail of spine. Corners of flaps are clipped, but $2.00 price remains intact. First American edition of the novel published in Germany, 1927, as Töchter. Der Roman zweier Generationen. A study of female perseverance in Weimar-era Berlin, with Reuter providing nuanced psychological profiles of her female characters amid the "destruction of moral codes" (flap blurb) in Berlin. The dust jacket, with a splendid (uncredited) illustration, is now preserved in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
