nbsp;NewYork- The Modern Language Association of America, 1938 Book. VERY GOOD INDEED. Hardcover. First edition.. A biography of thepioneering dramatist and theatre owner, Daivd Garrick. The first edition. With a portrait frontispiece of Garrick and upwards of tenfull pageplates. Apresentationcopy with a note from the author addressed to actor Maurice Herbert Evans. Stein congratulates Evans for his 'perfect interpretation of Shekespeare's Richard II'and anticipates 'the many more great characterizations he will present in the future' signed with her 'high regards and good wishes' dated April 5 1938. It can therefore be assumed that a prior owner to this text was Maurice Evans. Evans was noted for hisShakespearean acting although is best known on-screen as Dr Zaius in Planet of the Apes and as Samantha Stephens' father Maurice in Bewitched. David Garrick was a large influence of nearly all aspects of theatrical practice throughout the 18th century, and several of his influences are still common practice in theatres today. Stein's work studies Garrick's work as a playwright. She analyses his French adaptations, Pantomimes, Burlesques, Comedies and more. Condition: In original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart with slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Some marks to boards. Presentation copy from author. Signed inscription addressed to Maurice Evans from Elizabeth P Stein dated April 5 1938. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are bright and clean. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED..
