Demy 8vo; original red cloth, lettered in gilt on spine, and in black on upper cover; pp. xxxvi + 308, incl. index; plates; folding map. Cloth rather worn, stippled, and sunned on spine; small, penned accession code, and bookplate of Neville Jones to front pastedown; rather foxed; binding slack, with archival tape reinforcing between two gatherings; some plates working loose, but holding. Fair. (Work, p. 186; Tenri Africana 3246) The pictorial bookplate of Neville Jones is listed on page 46 of 'South African Bookplates from the Percival J. G. Bishop Collection'. Based on his experience of travel in West Africa and the Congo Basin, the missionary author provides his insights on native tribes, commercial prospects and other matters. The photographs are very interesting. .
