Pale blue/teal Morocco. Five raised bands in six segments. Gilt and orange line design to front cover board. Small mark to front overboard. Slipcase, grey paper with black line design. Gilt page edges. Gilt author and title on spine. Decorative endpapers. Some light foxing to half title but does not impact readability.
Heavily illustrated in full page colour photographs, as well as black and white photos and illustrations. Hawkes suggest that the ancient Minoans were ruled by women. Hawkes builds her theories on the lack of representation of male rulers (which was a much different practice than contemporaries, such as the Egyptians, Sumerians and Hittites that provided portrayals of male leaders). In addition to little evidence - or no evidence at all! - of a male, there is plenty of evidence of strong, powerful female figures in Minoan art.
