About This Item

New York: E. P. Dutton & Co, 1941. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good. 8vo. Pp. 111, (1). Bound in full light blue cloth with gilt lettering stamped on front cover and spine. Age-toning to extremities of cover, dust jacket with trifle wear to extremities. In sum, a solid, presentable copy. Inscribed on the FFEP in ink by the poet, whose tenure as president of the Poetry Society of America spanned five terms: "For my Friend Melville Cane from A. M. Sullivan with best wishes Feb. 18, 1942". Cane, a well regarded poet and known in his time for "Making a Poem" (1953), is chiefly known as legal counsel to William Saroyan, Thomas Wolfe, Sinclair Lewis, Ayn Rand, Upton Sinclair and others. Super cool dust jacket, depicting the Manhattan skyline, is now protected in a clear, removable, archival sleeve.
