About This Item

New York: Jump At the Sun: Hyperion Books for Children. As New in As New dust jacket. 2005. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0786804904 . A stunning first edition/first printing in unread As New condition in alike dustjacket. SIGNED and dated 2-16-06 by author Julius Lester directly on the title page; During two rainy days in March, 1859, the largest auction of slaves in American history was held in Savannah, Georgia. Written in dialogue, the story emerges from different perspectives - the white master, his children, house slaves, field hands and even the auctioneer. The reader experiences the dehumanization that slavery brought to both white and black people, and the struggle to affirm humanity in the midst of it. The deluge of rain in the story is used to symbolize God's tears as He looks down on His creation. Winner of the 2006 Coretta Scott King Award ; Small 8vo ; Signed by Author .
