About This Item

Lundae (Lund) Sweden: Typis Berlingianis, 1791. 1st ed. presumably . Grey Paper Wraps. VG-Fine for age & genre. 15 Cm x 19. Cm. 28 pp.; text virtually perfect, grey wrap clean but a little edge-chipped and creased. Apparently a Latin doctoral dissertation on the value of psychology in selecting candidates for the ministry. A very rare and early example of the psychology-religion relationship as a practical issue. Not having Latin I am slightly confused because after the title text t.p. continues 'Praeses, Mag. Carolus Ryden et Andreas Siolin , Smolandi, Publico Eruditorum Examini Subjiciunt in Lyceo Carolino die XIV, Decembris Anni MDCCXCI'. Most of this is fairly unproblematic but am unsure if I have read it correctly as meaning Siolin wrote this as a dissertation under 'Mag.' Ryden. Verso t.p.has what I take to be a dedicatory verse signed by Siolin. I also note that location of the public examination of the dissertation is not actually named after King Charles XIV of Sweden, who had not then ascended the throne, and googling the phrase only yields references to Swedish library holdings of this, and one other, dissertation/thesis (one being in the University of Lund). Note: quoted shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.
