About This Item

New York: Triangle Books, 1939. First edition thus. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. First Triangle edition, stated "First Printing November 1939" on copyright page. Hardcover in light blue cloth stamped in black. Very good, some spotting to the cloth, usual embrowning to the pages as is common with these Triangle reissues. In the des Rossiers-designed dust jacket with same image as the 1935 first edition except the background is blue rather than orange. Some modest wear at the extremities and a short closed tear rear panel as well as some even soiling to the white rear panel, foxing to the flaps. "The murder was discovered just before the air liner from Le Bourget aerodrome was due to land at Croydon. Madama Giselle...was found slumped over her seat. Death has unquestionably taken place while high in the air and beyond doubt the murderer was one of the thriteen occupants of the plane..." Hercule Poirot investigates. Even this ediiton is remarkable scarce in dust jacket.

Synopsis

Dame Agatha Christie is the world’s best-known mystery writer. Her books have sold over two billion copies worldwide and have been translated into 44 foreign languages. During a writing career that spanned more than half a century, she created two of the world’s most famous detectives. Hercule Poirot and Miss Jane Marple. The author of 79 novels and short story collections, she was also an accomplished playwright--one of her 14 plays, The Mousetrap , is the longest-running play in history. She published six romantic novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott and wrote four non-fiction books, including an autobiography. Several of her books, including Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile , were made into hugely successful films. She died in 1976.
