Ithaca, the major city of Tompkins County, is where most of the deaths and marriages took place. Most notices are dated between 1870 and 1890 although earlier and later notices are included. Sources are always identified in the entries by title and publication date. Death records contain the name of the subject, the subject’s age, the date of death and the place of death; marriage records contain the names of bride, groom and officiating clergy, the date and location of the service, and the hometown(s) of the bride and groom. When known, information such as occupation, names of relatives and/or cause of death has been added. All entries are arranged alphabetically by surname.
