A realistic history of the Papacy and the Roman Church, which became the Roman Catholic Church, with an emphasis on the struggle to balance the need to serve the spiritual needs of the world's Catholics, and the desire to be engaged in the politics and power plays of the world's nations. The book is very good with reading creases on the spine, and light soiling on the edges. The price-clipped jacket has moderate edge wear, and several short tears. It is very good, but only just so.
