Olive green cloth textured boards with gilt titling on cover, spine worn at the head and browned, 8vo., in green cloth-covered slip case, also good. Rough-cut page edges, nicely toned at edges. Binding sound, interior clean. BOOK INFO: The transcript of speeches given on the occasion of the dedication of this residence, built as a gift to the Chicago YWCA from Chicago industrialist Cyrus H. McCormick in memory of his wife Harriet, who worked on behalf of children in the city after having lost their daughter at age 13. Laid in are Cyrus' calling card and a 6-pg. 3x6 in. blue pamphlet describing the residence built for girls: ""Rates $13.50 to $17.00 the week (Including breakfast and dinner) Telephone Whitehall 4380."" Facilities for permanent and transient guests included a fireplace, library, tea room, 3 dining rooms, 2 living rooms, a recreation room with a stage, swimming pool, 2 hospital rooms, laundry, beauty parlor, a private kitchen and two ""Fudge Kitchens...for candy making or tea and toast when...one is too tired to get up in time for breakfast.
