About This Item
London: Macmillan and Co, 1882. First British Edition. Paperback. Very Good. First British edition, wrappered issue. (Apparently issued simultaneously with the much more common cloth issue.) 280, (4, ads) pp. Wraps. Very Good condition for a paperback of this era despite wear: loss at head and tail, some soiling, chips and creasing to fragile wraps, and front wrap partially detached. Slight lean. A few slightly creased page corners. Most paperbacks from this time period are in much worse shape. A very special survival, with thin wraps made of paper no thicker than the text sheets. No other copies for sale in the trade as of May 2018. A bestselling political novel, first published in the US on April Fool's Day 1880. The author's identity was unverified until after his death, 35 years later.
Synopsis
