Quarter red morocco over paper boards with gilt particulars to spine. This third edition has "large additions," which has doubled the size of the publication as the introduction states. Considered to be an important work of the American Federalist period. Anti-Jeffersonian in rhetoric explictly including Jefferson's affair with his slave, Sally Hemings. Some minor spotting to boards and general wear to edges. Foxing throughout. Previous owners name inked to top of title page to both volumes. Loss to preface page viii. Vol. 1: xxiv, 179 pp.; Vol. 2: 238 pp., [1 (errata)]. 4 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches.
