London: Charles Knight, 1830. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo. The Library of Entertaining Knowledge. Published under the superintendence of the society for the diffusion of useful knowledge. Half bound calf over marbled boards and edges, gilt compartments, raised bands and two black leather spine labels, vi, 422 pp., illustrated with in-text wood engravings of trees and fruits and their uses in art. Some wear to corners and edges, foot of front joints starting, but otherwise a very good copy. Edwin Lankester was an English surgeon and Naturalist. He studied medicine at University College, London from 1834-1837, and in 1843 became a lecturer of Materia Medica and Botany at the School of Medicine adjoining St. George's Hospital [The British Medical Journal, 'Obituary', Nov. 7, 1874].
