1. Published in New York by William H. Colyer, 104 Beekman Street, 1839. 20 cm., 7.75 x 4.75 inches. 263pp. Original binding, but pages 145 to 168 follow page 263. Original chipped paper spine label shows title, author and ""Complete in 1 volume""; missing the C in both ""Capt."" and ""Complete"", and the A in ""America"". Some browning, soiling and foxing, a few minor corner folds, binding tight. 1/4 cloth with light green paper covered boards and darker blue-green cloth spine. Possibly the first American pirated edition. Marryat's travels thru New York, Washington, Kentucky, Canada...Documents his observations, commenting on prisons, religions, slavery, habits, army, climate, language, government, education, commerce, law (particularly ""Lynch Law""), plants and animals, cities, etc. Howes M300.
