About This Item
New York: Turtle Point Press, 1992. Soft cover. Very Good. A 193 page work consisting of 26 chapters and an epilogue. Probably no one thing has had a greater influence upon the progress and expansion of the United States than the discovery of gold in California in 1849. This work portrays the experiences of one Alfred T. Jackson, a pioneer miner who cabined and worked on Rock Creek, Nevada County, California. The diary covers a period of about two years. Here we find a truthful, unadorned chronicle of the placer mining days of that time and a narrative of events as they occurred. The covers and the spine have some indentations but they are light. No apparent writings on the pages, no loose pages. A quite presentable copy, available for immediate shipment, carefully packed.
