About This Item

London and New York: Luzac & Co and G.P. Putnams Sons.. Hardback. Good/No Jacket. These are Parts I to IX of the original publication of this still definitive reference work, dated 1886 to 1896 published by Jastrow through Luzac & Co, London and Putnam's, New York, before they were gathered together and published in definitive two volume format in 1903. Included are several period flyers from Luzac's announcing the forthcoming publication of the next Part. 8.5" x 11". 876 pages (across the nine parts). Condition is generally good for their age but the buff card covers are fragile, with the usual tanning and soiling, and in Part's I and IX the covers are tatty (Part I front cover detached), and in Part's IV and VII there are small pieces of the cover missing, but the actual text in all cases is good. In some Parts the pages are uncut on the top edge which tends to indicate they have never been read. There is a small address and owners name on the title page otherwise there are no inscriptions or annotations. There is a bookplate in each Part - IHS, 114 Mount Street, London. The Title page states the publishers as Trubner & Co and Putnam's Sons, but on the covers of Parts I to IV, Trubner's name has been replaced with a period sticker with Luzac's name. From Part V onwards the covers are printed with Luzac's name. A fascianting historical document and a valuable addition to a collection of Hebrew and Aramaic works.

About Hall of Books

We sell secondhand books and sheet music online and offer an eclectic (perhaps eccentric!) selection ranging from modern first edition hardbacks and quality paperbacks to the interesting, unusual and rare; the hard-to-find, collectable and out-of-print....and a lot more in between! We do our best to describe and photograph our books and music accurately, and to package them securely when they sell. We do not rely on stock images. If you need more information on a particular item, or if we have not yet uploaded a photograph for a particular listing, please contact us and we will respond by return.
