About This Item
Aix-en-Provence: Suzie David Imprimeur, 1954. First Edition. Octavo (19cm x 24cm). Plain cream card wrappers with printed dustwrapper; xxvi, 35pp. One of 400 "regular" copies (the total edition was 490). Presentation inscription on a laid-in card, to an unknown recipient, from Alladine Bridget Lacroix, the author's daughter: "Maybe this unfinished dictionary by my father ) he died before reaching the i's) will amuse you, as the preface is by Cingria whom you met," undated but clearly later. Small vertical tear to jacket at front flap-fold, else about Fine. Guevara, a Chilean-born painter, poet and playboy, was loosely affiliated with the Bloomsbury set and with Nancy Cunard's Hours Press. Aside from one poem (published by Cunard), this appears to be Guevara's only published literary work. Most of his painted oeuvre (which was exhbited to some acclaim in the Twenties and Thirties) was destroyed in the London blitz during WWII.
