Zurich: Verlags, Magazin, 1891. First Edition. [11],370pp. Original gold stamped cloth. Translation: "The Anarchists: a picture of civilization at the close of the 19th century." This was the first book publication. It was the best known and most widely read of his world, and made him famous overnight. Mackays scholar Thomas Riley comments: "...through the eyes... we see the horrors of life among the London poor in 1870 and the useless attempts of London radicals to wipe out the evils of the world by means of an effective social movement... The Haymarket Affair was the aftermath of a bombing which took place at a labor demonstration on Tuesday, May 4, 1886 in Chicago. The bomb blast and ensuing gunfire killed seven police officers, four civilians, and created scores of wounded.
