Signed by the author on the title page, with his gift inscription to his children to the half-title. 8vo; pictorial boards; pp. (x) + 101; parallel English and Afrikaans texts, illustrated with black-and-white photographs and maps. Boards partially sunned, with coffee cup half-ring to upper board; small newspaper clipping relating to the author pasted to front free endpaper; some foxing. Good condition. The journal of Frans de Cuiper's expedition on behalf of the Dutch East India Company in search of Monomotapa's gold, with a reconstruction of the route followed. De Cuiper is reputed to have been the first European to have set foot in the area now occupied by the Kruger National Park. .
