About This Item

Baden, 1999. Hardcover. Fine. 2 vols. [1st vol. 2 verm. auflage; 2nd vol. is a first edition]. index, 179, 270p. Brown cloth. Gilt outline map of Africa and Madagascar on front covers. 25 cm. No Jackets. German text. Volume I covers works published 1500-1800; Volume 2 covers 1800-1945. The last part of title varies since Kainbacher initially projected a cut-off date of 1914 when the first volume was published, but apparently extended the cut-off date to 1945 when the 2nd volume was published. While it is unfortunate that entries were not numbered, thus preventing one from citing a Kainbacher entry by number, this is nonetheless an useful compilation of works (and translations) in German relating to the continent of Africa.
