Bound in original publisher's wrappers, illustrated in color. VAST EXHIBITION CATALOGUE OF THE 1545-1549 "SECRET BOOK OF HONOR" WHICH DEPICTS THE FUGGER FAMILY IN ILLUMINATED PORTRAITS. The catalogue presents a complete history of the famous "Secret Book of Honor" manuscript, executed in Augsburg by the Workshop of Jörg Breu the Younger. The Fugger family spared little expense on the commission of the richly illuminated manuscript of the Secret Book of Honor ("Geheime Ehrenbuch"), an extraordinary work which documents, in calligraphic text and illuminated portraits, the unparalleled rise of the family. Now in the possession of the Bavarian State Library, the manuscript is considered to be one of the most precious of the German Renaissance. This richly illustrated catalogue describes the impressive history of the manuscript, and of the Fugger family as bibliophiles and patrons of the arts.
