Stuttgart: Druk und Verlag Von Eduard Hallberger , C1875. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Gustave Dore. None. None 13 x 16.5 x 2 inches. 2 volume. 230 plates by Doré, there are 11 plates omitted in the German edition from the French and 3 extra plates, the text is elaborately decorated in the margins, on exceptionally good paper, with very occasional spotting, 2 vols thick large folio, original decorative embossed leather, all edges gilt, The German edition of Doré's Bible was elaborately and expensively produced. The paper and bindings are of superior quality to anything that the French and English Publishers produced. The extra decoration in the text could be said to detract from this edition, but the printing of his electrotype plates is suberb. Rebound using original boards and spine. Impressive gilt and pressed leather cover with borders and central medallion. Light foxing on pages, gilt pages on three edges. Oversized.
