About This Item
Wien [Viena]: Artaria & Co., 1907. Quarto. [2], 122 pages. Illustrated from photographs throughout. Original three-quarter red morocco over marble-paper covered boards with gilt title on the front cover, raised bands, and marbled endpapers; top edge gilt. The binding, signed "A[lbert] Günther, Wien," is identical to another seen on the market and is presumed to be an edition binding. 34 x 26 cm. Shallow chip to head of spine, small (1 cm) chip to base of the spine, corners worn with boards showing. Front joint cracked but holding and rear joint started at the ends, but the hinges are intact and the volume is sound. The title and final pages are moderately foxed; a few minor traces of faint marginal foxing elsewhere. Good plus. FIRST SEPARATE EDITION, reprinted from "Kunst und Kunsthandwerk." A handsome survey of the wooden furniture in the collection of Albert Figdor (1843-1927), a prominent Viennese banker. Figdor's estimable collection was dispersed in 1930 when it was sold at auction by his heirs. The author, Hans Stegmann (1862-1914), was an art historian and the director of the German National Museum in Nuremberg.
