Earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper; underlining and marginal annotations in pencil. Pencilling notwithstanding, very good condition. "Die kombuis was vanaf die vroegste tye die hart van die huis. In primitiewe wonings het die hele huis meermale eenvoudig rondom die kombuis-herd gegroei. Hier word die bou en inrigting van die ou Kaapse kombuis vir die eerste keer deur 'n bekende skryfster en kultuurhistorikus nagegaan. Sy gee 'n boeiende relaas van hoe die huisvrou van weleer bebak en gekook het, en van outydse gerei wat al jare in onbruik, en aan die moderne huisvrou volslae onbekend is. Van brandsolders en vuurysters tot seepkook en kersemaak - alles word met die toegewyde nougesetheid van die ware kenner en liefhebber beskryf." .
