The book starts with a background chapter on corpus linguistics, an approach to language study which involves the use of large databases, and then describes the corpus of 11,000 text messages collected by the author for this study. The text messages are analyzed for insight on the grammar of text messaging, re-spellings, discourse markers, performing identity through text messaging, and text messaging around the world.
