About This Item

New York: Dissent, 1957. First edition. Wraps. Very Good. 8vo. [1], 210-336 pp. 22.5 cm x 15 cm. Bound in blue paper wraps printed in black. The summer issue of 1957. Lennon 57.1. This issue of Dissent is where Mailer's short essay was first printed. His piece was and remains a controversial one, generating a response from James Baldwin. Mailer would later release a companion essay, "Reflections on Hipsterism". The other essays in this issue of Dissent discuss pertinent socialist issues of the day, including unions, auto workers, life in the small towns versus the suburbs of America, economics, and political issues in the United States. A spot of soiling on each wrap, spine shows minor toning.
