He was responsible for having Queen Victoria proclaimed Empress of India and for the British acquirement of the Suez Canal in 1875. Binding of green half cloth gilt titled with black cloth boards, clean with spine head and heel lightly compressed, edges rubbed. Tight, solid and square. 21 Illustrations in a separate section. Rough cut. Informational blurb from missing jacket affixed to CR page. Brown residue on half title page and through to title page, as if from something that was glued there at one time, otherwise pages clean, no marks, no creases, evenly toned. 310 pages, indexed. 5.75 x 8.5 inches. 1951, Harper and Brothers, New York, New York, USA
