About This Item
New York, NY Charles Scribner's Sons, 1912. Hardcover First Edition (1912), unstated, but implied: no subsequent printings noted, in accordance with Charles Scribner's Sons' customary practice prior to 1929. Shows margin lines and underlining, mostly in pencil but a few in ink on pages 350-426. Else, Very Good: The Book shows indications of careful use: light shelving wear to the lower extremities; very slight spine lean; former owner's not unattractive blind stamp and a three word note indicating a gift; the outside edges of the text block are a tad dust-dulled and shows a very faint dampstain to the upper fore-edge which does not penetrate into the text block at all; the hinges are starting and have been repaired with binder's glue. The binding remains secure; the text is clean. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. A clean, handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing the mildest wear and minor, unobtrusive flaws - and of course the afforementioned markings in the text. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (8.3 x 5.75 x 1.3 inches). xiv, 540 pages. Language: English. Weight: 29.8 ounces. Blue cloth over boards with gilt titles at the back-strip. International Theological Library Series. First Edition (1912), unstated, but implied: no subsequent printings noted, in accordance with Charles Scribner's Sons' customary practice prior to 1929. Hardback: Lacks DJ, probably as issud. The Very Rev Prof Hugh Ross Mackintosh DD (1870 1936) was a Scottish theologian, and parish minister who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1932. His major theological work was his major study addressing the Person of Christ. He arrived at a kenotic doctrine of incarnation following his fellow Scot P. T. Forsyth. His other influential work was the 'Christian Experience of Forgiveness' which attempted to creatively restate the Protestant doctrines of justification and atonement. He argued that justification was forgiveness and that the cross was the cost of forgiveness to God. He also taught T. F. Torrance dogmatics (systematic theology).
