Xix + 207pp with 8 coloured plates including frontispiece and numerous black and white illustrations and photographs. This is a study of some of the breeds of dog originating in China and Japan, together with a history of the place of dogs in society, palace life, breeding, symbolism etc. Chapters include Eastern Dogs in Early Times, Dog-Lore and Superstition, Dog Breeding, Sporting and Guard Dogs, The Chinese Lion, Symbolism of the Buddhist and Lamaist Lion, Historical References to Dogs of Pekingese Type, Evolution of the Pekinese Type, Points of the Pekinese Type, The Chinese Pug, The “Japanese” Dogs, The Chinese Lion Dog, Toy Dogs in Chinese Art, table of dates and index. Corners bumped, some marks to the boards / shelf ware particularly to top of spine, which has a couple of small tears. Some foxing throughout, mostly to the front and rear, plates generally clean. ***Over 1kg and may require additional overseas postage***
