Maastricht: [A.A.M. Stols] , 1933. Print. Very Good. No Binding. 1st Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Incomplete suite of 9 (out of 11) white line wood engravings for the first edition of Dolores by J.C. Swinburne, printed on imperial Japanese paper. The illustrations represent female figures which with a single clever line have been engraved in the block. Privately printed by Stols for the collector Baron Emile van der Borch van Verwolde. The first edition of Dolores was limited to 50 copies with white line engravings. The engravings were reworked as silhouettes in the second edition. 7 engravings measure 10 x 5 cm., the head- and tailpieces measure 5 x 5 cm. Sheets are 25 x 16 cm. The tailpiece of a female nude with three ravens refers to the coat-of-arms of Emile, Baron van der Borch van Verwolde. Very rare. .
