About This Item
London : T. Becket, 1777. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 7" by 4.5". None. A complete four volume set of The Dramatick Works of George Colman. A complete four volume set in a beautiful original eighteenth century binding. Rather uncommon in the first edition. George Colman was an English dramatist, born in Florence and for many years was the acting manager of Covent Garden. The first volume contains the works The Jealous Wife and the Clandestine Marriage. Volume two contains The English Merchant, The Man of Business and Man and Wife. Volume three contains Philaster, King Lear and Epicoene. The final volume contains Polly Honeycombe, The Musical Lady, The Deuce is in Him, The Oxonian in Town, The Portrait, The Fairy Prince and The Spleen. All are in contemporary eighteenth century full tree calf binding. Externally, smart with some fairly mild rubbing to the spine and joints and extremities. Some cracking to the rear joint of vol. 1. The hinges are starting but all remain firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good
