About This Item
This is a folding portfolio made of navy board with gray title labels on the cover and spine. Includes a 24-page booklet and 72 loose b&w plates (complete) containing reproductions of Klee's drawings between 1921 and 1930. Published by Curt Valentin Gallery, with an essay by Will Grohmann. Printed in the summer of 1944 in an edition of 700 copies by the Meriden Gravure Company.
The deckle edge booklet features Grohmann's essay and a list of the 72 plates. The booklet contains light tanning on edges and one folded corner, some b&w plates also have light tanning at edges. The portfolio spine, front and rear cover edges are faded, also with scuffing and some marks. Otherwise, a remarkable collectible portfolio of work by Klee in great shape. "The drawings reproduced in this volume are examples of Klee's intuition, his creative inventiveness and his mastery of technique. They permit a glimpse into the workshop of an indefatigable and inehaustible artist," according to Grohmann.
