About This Item
Hanover, NH: University of New England Press, 1985. Hardcover. VG. Glossy illustrated dj. Brown cloth. xiv, 279 pp. 14 color, 48 bw repros. This book grew out of the discovery of many boxes of ephemera and paintings all related to one New England Family named Cross. It searches out the educational techniques, artistic endeavors and professional activities of this single family during the mid- to late-Nineteenth Century. Fascinating study of the effect art education had on career and social development in the time frame presented (and is compared to today's fervor to learn computers). Includes bibliographical references (pages 263-271) and index. With a foreword by Rudolf Arnheim.
