About This Item
326pp. 1st Edition. The author's second book, after 'Beacon Cross'. Near Very Good condition ?lacking dedication page?. With loosely inserted note "To Geoffrey, Wishing you a Very Happy New Year J. Newton 7/1/39.". The significance of this note is uncertain, with Dunn Severick likely to be a pseudonym (Possibly relating to Dunseverick in Northern Ireland). In original dustwrapper by "C.M" which is not price-clipped (published price 7/6). The wrapper is in only Fair condition, with loss of a large section to upper spine, tear to fold of rear flap and some further edge chips.
A contemporary newspaper review:
Mr Dunn Severick is evidently a writer of some penetrative ability and power of analysis. In "Drayton Wins" a conflict is fought between two men, the one deprived of every weapon of defence except inflexible determination; the other with every advantage that a man can bend to ruthless and ignoble purpose. The futility of human strife which denies satisfaction even to the victim, is well brought out, while the delicate love interest which is woven into the narrative provides a welcome and effective contrast to the rigor of the theme.
