London: Maurice Atkins and sold by Edward Nutt, 1715. A good copy of this classic work on local history. Folio, vi, [ii], v-xxi, 6, 5-114, 109-268pp, [iii], 276-628pp, [xii] + portrait frontispiece and 12 further plates, (lacks map of Leeds) some of which folding and laid on cloth. Text continuous, irregular pagination as usual. The separate title-page of the second section, Musaeum Thoresbyanum, is dated 1713. Woodcut headpieces and initials, further illustrations in the text. This copy is bound in a rather worn contemporary calf with gilt decoration that has been re-spined and the original spine laid on. Browning to pages and some staining. Early hand-written notes on some of the pedigrees and a continuation of the mayors of Leeds up to 1759 and other notes This copy belonged to early 20th century Leeds historian Alfred Mottison and bears his signature to fep. A good useable copy of this early topographical work by the pioneer of local history. An essential volume for any topographical library. . First Edition. Hardback. Good. Folio.

Folio, 17.5ins x 11.5ins, [vi], xvii, (i), xvii (Life of the author), (i), 268pp, 123pp (Catalogue of the antiquities in Museum Thoresbyanum, 159pp (Catalogue of natural and artificial rarities)11pp (index), 1pp binding instructions plus frontis portrait, 10pp plates and 16 pedigrees (many folding or double page). All present as listed. Many shields and other pedigrees within the text. The second hald of the book (Museum catalogue) was edited by Thomas Dunham Whitaker. The last two pages are hanging on by a single thread. The rest of the volume is well sewn. Chipping to page edges of last two pages. A complete work without boards or endpapers - suitable for rebinding or as a working reference copy. Nb heavy book (4kg) expensive to post overseas.
