Chicago.: United Airlines.. 1949.. Booklet, 7 ¼ x 5 inches, 16 pp in glossy paper wraps. A guide to the Hawaiian Islands purportedly written by Duncan Hines, known for his restaurant ratings and the food products line bearing his name. In 1935 he published "Adventures in Good Eating," a restaurant guide, and progressed to newspaper food columns in the late 40s and 50s. In 1952 he introduced Duncan Hines Bread, expanding to cake mixes in the late 50s. He licensed his name to various manufacturers, with ownership of the Duncan Hines line eventually passing to Procter and Gamble. Booklet in very good clean condition, with photos of Hines and wife on verso of front and rear covers. In both photos Hines’ sports what is termed "a native-woven coconut hat"— two cautionary images. Very good clean condition. An interesting booklet, viewed from a contemporary perspective, with many residents, it is written," hope that the islands will become "the 49th State of the United States." .
