About This Item
Good. Set of 10 silver gel photos mounted on board with typed descriptions affixed to the mounts. Photos measure 8 x 10 inches; mounts measure 11 x 14 inches. One photo has black tones, all the others have brown tones. Photos are numbered or numbered and lettered. Previous owner has written in pencil on some of the photos (in the margins) and mounts, usually the photo number and sometimes a note about the photo content. It looks as though some of the photos were originally numbered or titled in the negative but these titles were scratched out in the negative and are unreadable. Mounts are slightly curved and have light toning and wear to the edges. One photo is missing its description and the mount has residue where the description was glued. Overall good condition. The photographer of these images is unknown. We believe the photos to be dated around the 1930s based on the vehicles pictured and one description that mentions Canyon de Chelly National Monument which was authorized in 1931. There are six photos that depict scenes from the Hopi reservation. There are four images depicting scenes of Navajo life. All the images are quite beautiful and depict daily life in the early 20th century. Highlights of the set include the photo of peaches, pitted and drying on a rooftop at a Hopi village, the photo a herd of sheep in a corral with men surrounding them, the photo titled Navajo Counting Sheep with an old car and hogans in the background, and Navajo farmland in Canyon de Chelly. 20. 827C.
