About This Item

Good. Set of three mounted gelatin silver photographs from around 1900. All photos measure 5" x 7" and the previous owner has written in pencil on verso of each mount. Photographer's imprint stamped on one photograph: "G. T. Green, Photographer, Waynoka, O. T." Photographs have light to moderate soiling; mounts have moderate soiling and one mount has 1" of loss to the upper right corner. Overall good. This set of early 20th century photographs depict the Wolly family who settled in Waynoka, Oklahoma Territory. Waynoka was established in 1887 when the Southern Kansas Railroad was built across Indian Territory, in present day northwestern Oklahoma. Oklahoma Territory was established from the Indian Territory in 1890. These photographs show the rural life of the non-Native settler. One image depicts a family in front of their house and barn; a child is seated on a toy horse and his parents stand beside him. The second photograph depicts farm workers harvesting grain; there are wagons, machinery and about 12 men pictured in the photograph. The third image depicts a group portrait of men, women and children pausing for a photograph while bringing in a harvest of grain. There are four women pictured in the photograph, all standing at the right. We couldn't find any information about the Wolly family; the only identification of this family being the notes written by the previous owner of this set. A good set of photographs worthy of more research by a genealogist or western historian. .
