About This Item
Philadelphia: Jas. B. Rodgers Co, 1873. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. 8vo. 607pp. plus 5 plates and 27 original photo portraits of oil industry pioneers and operators. Modern black half morocco binding. Howes H421. Larson 2846. Henry was a Titusville newspaper man, who produced what Howes called the "first comprehensive history of the infancy of this industry. " Swanson reports that it is a "valuable, well-written early history based upon . . . . on-the-spot investigation while all early participants were still living and could be interviewed. In addition to [an] authoritative account of Drake well, Henry gives detailed histories of many early producing properties, companies and individual oil men. "Title page is in facsimile with some light foxing to inserted plates and tissue guards. Otherwise very good.
