Venice: Giovanni Varisco, 1559. Leaf. Very good. Single leaf measuring a little over 9 by 14 inches, printed in red and black and with woodcut initials. This is folio 232 from an unidentified pre-Tridentine Missale Romanum, probably the Dominican Missale of 1559 printed by Giovanni Varisco. This leaf covers the Proper of the Saints from October 20 through October 27. The 21st is the feast of the 11,000 martyred virgins, but without mentioning St. Ursula; October 25, Chrystantus and Daria, and the 27th, Vigil of Simon and Jude, apostles. So Raphael (24th) is missing as is Pope Everistus (26th).. There are three woodcut initials (probably from stock as they do not necessarily relate to the feasts involved), one on the obverse and two on the reverse of the leaf. There is a long closed tear, artfully mended, on the outer margin, touching the text but without loss, else this is a fine example. Housed in a protective folder.
