About This Item

W. W. Norton & Company, 2008. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Signed by both authors. Fred Krupp remains the President of the Environmental Defense Fund. Laid in is a typed signed letter from him to DC-based DuPont heiress Louisa Duemling, dated March 5 2008. The letter closes: "I encourage you to not only read EARTH: The Sequel, but also to ask others in your extended network to do the same. We believe that this book will help convince Americans that there are solutions to global warming that have exciting economic potential, as well as huge benefits for the planet. If you are willing to help, please let me know, and we will follow up with you with more specifics on what you can do to expand the reach of this message. Thank for your partnership with us at Environmental Defense. It's your support that makes all that we do possible." Duemling, very likely a donor, has been on the boards of the National Parks Foundation and the Maryland chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Meanwhile Krupp s bio on the jacket s back flap touts that he has "partnered with DuPont" among other corporations. DuPont is mentioned on five pages in the book. This copy is in fine condition in a near fine jacket with an eighth-of-an-inch puncture along the spine on the front cover (not noticeable without real scrutiny) and a tear of the same short length to the lower rear spine. The letter is fine, folded. A book commonly found signed, but the letter makes this an interesting association copy. We invite you to explore our dedicated, growing collection of signed and inscribed climate change books. Please inquire for photos.

About Rural Hours

Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
