B/w frontispiece + 11 plates + 3 fold-out maps (2 colour, 1 b/w - all very good condition with no tears). Top edge red. Original red cloth with gilt titles to spine. Small split to cloth to foot of spine. Boards marked and slightly bowed, spine a little faded. Light fox spotting to text block edge, endpapers and occasionally in text. Previous owner bookplate to front pastedown. Paper split to bottom 5 cm of front inner hinge. Not ex-library. No names, notes or inscriptions. 543 pp. All books are individually described. All overseas orders are sent airmail by Royal Mail International Tracked.
Synopsis
Eastern Approaches (1949) is an autobiographical account of the early career of Fitzroy Maclean. It is divided into three parts: his life as a junior diplomat in Moscow and his travels in the Soviet Union, especially the forbidden zones of Central Asia; his exploits in the British Army and SAS in the North Africa theatre of war; and his time with Tito and the Partisans in Yugoslavia.
