One of 250 numbered copies printed by Edwin and Robert Grabhorn on unbleached handmade paper. Tie ends are lacking, a small chip to the foot of the spine, else a clean, unworn near fine copy in archival mylar.

No. 152 of 250 copies, quarto size, [47] pp. The first book published by the Roxburghe Club of San Francisco, "Eden Anto" is the story of a rare 1532 edition of Ariosto's "Orlando Furioso", written by Italian novelist Antonio Fogazzaro (1842-1911). Three illustrations by Dutch artist Rene Gockinga (1893-1962) are reproduced, through an experiment of half-tone printing by the Grabhorn Press; the resulting images have a rich, almost velvet quality.
___DESCRIPTION: Full green paper over thin boards, cream paper spine label with green lettering, green ribbon ties, fore- and bottom edges uncut, title page with black decorative border illuminated in red, facsimiles of book pages and manuscripts preceding the text, three illustrations by Rene Gockinga printed in brown with yellow and black borders throughout; Lutetia type, Arnold paper, quarto size (11.25" by 8"), pagination: [i-xvi] 1-30 [1 colophon], one of 250 copies, this number 152. Tasteful prior owner bookplate, belonging to James David Zellerbach (1892-1963), the United States Ambassador to Italy in 1957, tipped in on the front paste-down endpaper. In a slipcase covered in green paper.
___CONDITION: A fine copy; the covers clean, the corners straight and unrubbed, the binding tight with solid hinges, the interior clean and bright, and the only prior owner marking is the bookplate mentioned above; some very faint off-setting from the bookplate, else fine. The slipcase is fine also, strong and sturdy, clean overall, without wear.

Keppel [1875-1943, Dean of Columbia College, 1910-1918, president of the Carnegie Corporation, 1923-1941] and signed by the translator, Theo. W. Koch. 7.75" wide by 11.25" tall. Near Fine condition. SEE PHOTOS. Bright, square, tight. Pages are clean, crisp, and unmarked. The first book published by the Roxburghe Club. Limited to 250 numbered copies, this being #228. Finely printed by Edwin and Robert Grabhorn. Illustrated with a portrait of Ariosto and a title page of ORLANDO FURIOSO (1532), both engraved by F. De Nanto, and with several facsimiles of old manuscripts (from the Pierpont Morgan Library]. Modern illustrations by René Gockinga. Bound in the original green paper-covered boards, with a printed paper spine label. The four green silk book closing ties remain bound-in, however the loose ends of the ties have perished.
