About This Item

Los Angeles, CA: Carcosa House, 1947. First edition, first printing . Hardcover. Number 788 of 1500 numbered copies on special limitation page. The only book issued by this publisher. "Serialized in the New York Evening Journal (1898), this was a sequel to Wells' The War of The Worlds." Barron; Anatomy of Wonder 4, *1-82. Clute & Nicholls; The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, pp. 1087-1088. Carcosa House, thinking the original Swanson jacket was unacceptable issued the book only in a clear plastic jacket. The approximately 500 remaindered copies were later issued in the Swanson dust cover. This color jacket could even be purchased for $1.00. Chalker; The Science-Fantasy Publishers, pp 88 - 89. Very good plus a fine custom made dust jacket. Earley had a habit of making his own dust jackets for books without one.
