About This Item

London: James and John Knapton, 1727. Sixth Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. 8vo; in full calf double-ruled at the perimeter of the boards, with raised bands and double rules to the spine; [xi], 288 pages including the Appendix; contemporary previous owner name -- "T. de Grey" -- on the front endpaper; with attractive head- and tail-pieces and an woodcut capital at the beginning of the Prefeace; there is a small amount of loss to the spine, and the front gutter is cracked but holding well.~~Overall, a nice copy of this work by Thomas Baker, a fellow of St. John';s College, Cambridge. Baker argued against pluralism's claim that God would not creat lifeless worlds. In this work: "There cannot ... be any absurdity in saying that all things were created for the sake of this inferior World, and the inhabitants there of, and they that have such thoughts of it, seem not to have consider'd, who it was that died to redeem it.". Very Good binding.
